The area covered by Maketu Volunteer Coastguard has a high drowning rate due to the dangerous conditions within the these waters. Unfortunately this year (2011) we have had another drowing in our waters.  Help us to make a difference and change these statistics.

Maketu Coastguard is a voluntary organisation and a Registered Charity. Our team of dedicated people donate their time for training, rescues, searches and education. We are funded  entirely by our members and sponsors.  Our area has a shocking statistic of 11 drownings within the past 10 years  - (see graph up to 2011)

Please  join Maketu Goastguard as a member,click here for all membership details and all benefits for you belonging to Maketu Coastguard.  It is very worthwhile even if you do not own a boat, or live in Maketu, but enjoy  boating and other activities within the waters of our response area. (See map below)                                       
Who should join? Residents of Maketu, Rotorua, Te Puke, Papamoa, Pukehina, Paengaroa, and surrounding areas and any one who uses the Maketu, Pukehina  or Kaituna Cut boat ramps or is in the water within our response area. Boaties, kayakers, fishermen, swimmers, jetski users, surfers, kite surfers and divers will all benefit from joining.
